Three things to look for in your school's telecoms provider

If you’re a school business manager, the chances are that managing the school finances is just one part of your job. You don’t have time to trawl through endless websites looking for the most reliable and cost effective suppliers.

To save you time, we’ve put together this list of key features to look out for in a school telecoms provider.

Are they NASBM approved?

The NASBM Approved Partners programme is designed to help schools with important procurement decisions. It gives you peace of mind that you're buying from a reliable source.

To apply for Approved Partner status, companies are subject to a rigorous vetting process, which includes taking multiple references from schools. If your supplier is NASBM-approved, then you can rest assured that they've provided a good service to other schools - no need to spend time reading through endless testimonials and reviews.

Dataphone is proud to be a NASBM Approved Partner. Of course, if you would like to read them, we have plenty of testimonials and case studies from happy customers.

Do they offer transparent billing and fixed pricing?

Utility costs can vary from one bill to the next. This makes your job of managing the school’s finances harder than it needs to be.

Ask your supplier if they can provide a fixed price guarantee, so that you can predict exactly what you will spend each month on lines, calls and maintenance. You should also check that your chosen supplier can offer fraud prevention, so that you don't fall prey to a phone hacking scam.

Knowing that there will be no nasty surprises at the end of a billing period will make it easier for you to allocate funds to teaching and learning. Click here for more information on Dataphone’s fixed price billing.

Are their staff DBS checked?

Once you’ve chosen a supplier, the last thing you need is for it to become a train on your time. If an engineer isn't DBS checked, then you will need to ensure that they're supervised at all times.

Before you agree to take a supplier on, ask them for confirmation that any staff who will be on-site have already been DBS checked. That way you know that your pupils will be safe, and your team can focus on the work at hand.

In fact, school business managers frequently tell us that Dataphone takes very little of their time once the installation process begins - many reporting that the time commitment was less than an hour
